Design Research, UX/UI & Storytelling
HvA / Indisch Herinneringscentrum
6 months
For my graduation project for the Communication and Multimedia Design program at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, I was tasked with designing a digital interactive product. This was a complete design process from design research to testing and eventually prototyping. In the end I designed an app to facilitate discussions about the history of the Dutch East Indies, to try and break the generational silence called: the Indo's Silence (Dutch: "Indisch Zwijgen").

The goal with this project was to create an app where people could read up on information about this intense history and to also share their own stories. The user uploaded stories would show the Dutch-Indonesian history from all sorts of perspectives, because there were a lot of different perspectives involved throughout.
Figure 2: 'Journey through history'
Users are able to upload their own stories through a form. The app also displays information about the most important events in the Dutch-Indonesian history.

Since this project was a full fledged design process, a lot of research had to be done in advance. Interviewing a lot of different stakeholders (The Indisch Herinneringscentrum, history teachers, Reinwardt Academy and Kossmann.dejong), setting up persona's, user journey's, moodboards, plan of requirements and ideation of different concepts, were all part of this project.
